In the ODI series decider between India and South Africa at Boland Park in Paarl on Thursday, December 21, Indian young sensation Sai Sudharsan took an exceptional catch. This remarkable grab brought an end to Heinrich Klaasen’s innings during which he scored 21 runs off 22 balls including three boundaries.

Klaasen was dismissed in the 33rd over of South Africa’s run chase. Avesh Khan delivered a length ball on the off side that stopped on the bat. While attempting a drive, the right-handed batter ended up chipping the ball in the air towards the mid-off fielder.

Despite the ball finishing several yards before the fielder, Sudharsan executed a full-stretched front dive to secure the catch. The third umpire confirmed that the fingers were underneath the ball, ultimately making the final decision in favour of the catch. Following the dismissal, the Men in Blue limited the Proteas to 174/5 in their pursuit of a 297-run target.

Sai Sudharsan seamlessly adapted to international cricket, making notable contributions with the bat. The left-handed batter posted unbeaten scores of 55 and 62 in the first two ODIs against South Africa. However, he faced a setback in the third and final ODI, managing to score only 10 runs in 16 deliveries.

For South Africa it was Beuran Hendricks who emerged as a standout performer with the ball for the hosts, claiming figures of 3/63. Additionally, Nandre Burger also picked up two wickets while Lizaad Williams, Wiaan Mulder, and Keshav Maharaj each contributed with one wicket.

In response, the South African team had a great start but kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, which resulted in them falling short of the target by 78 runs. The Men in Blue secured a victory and clinched their first ODI series in South Africa since 2018.
