The first one-day international between India and South Africa is going on at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The match had a late start due to rain and the first bowl was bowled only at 3:00 PM IST. India won the toss and chose to bowl.

South Africa had to bat first in tricky conditions. Iffy weather conditions and moisture in the air meant the surface was helpful for the bowlers to operate. The batters where in for testing times which was akin to the 1st hour of a Test match. Avesh Khan, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur were making the new ball talk.

Avesh Khan, with his height and with the sticky conditions on offer, was able to extract bounce from the wicket which caused trouble to the South African batters. But Janneman Malan and Quinton de Kock fought the hard conditions and came out firing.

Janeman Malan loooked good for his 22 off 42 balls and was threatening to take on the Indian attack but the man with the golden arm Shardul came on and dismissed him to give the first breakthrough for the Men in Blue.

Temba Bavuma’s dismal tour of India continued as he was dismissed just for eight runs by Shardul which took the score to 70-2. Then Kuldeep Yadav came up with a jaffa of a delivery to dismiss Aiden Makram which got the fans going ga-ga and yelling in joy. It was a ball that turned big and beat Makram through the gate. When this ball happened many of the fans couldn’t help but compare the dismissal to the one of Babar Azam.

This happened in a similar fashion in the 2019 World Cup. India were 71/3 in 16 overs and wicket fell at the last ball of the 15th over when Markam perished for duck.
