The Australian juggernaut rolled on in ODI cricket as they thrashed the West Indies by a convincing 8-wicket margin in the first match of the three-match series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground today. Chasing a modest 232-run target, the Aussies cruised to victory with 12.3 overs to spare, showcasing their clinical efficiency and depth in batting.

Winning the toss and electing to field, Australia’s decision turned out to be brilliant as debutant Xavier Bartlett got rid of the two openers with them having added just 17 runs on the board. Bartlett also got rid of the West Indies’ skipper, Shai Hope leaving them in all sorts of trouble. However, a crucial 110-run stand between Keacy Carty and Roston Chase allowed the visitors to put up a respectable score of 231.

In response, the Aussies lost an early wicket in the form of Travis Head but post that, it was pure domination. Josh Inglis, Cameron Green and Steven Smith, all scored classy half-centuries to take the hosts over the line. The West Indian bowlers looked off-colour but in their defense, they just didn’t have enough runs to defend. Xavier Barlett was declared the player-of-the-match for his sensational figures of 4-17 on debut.

Inglis’ embarrassing miss!

During the 47th over of the West Indies innings, a comedic sequence unfolded. Gudakesh Motie struck a Sean Abbott delivery towards the off-side and completed a double with his partner, Hayden Walsh. However, a misfield from Travis Head at deep midwicket tempted Motie for a risky third run. Motie committed, but Walsh remained rooted at the other end. The chance for a run-out beckoned, and with Motie at least 10 yards away when the ball reached wicketkeeper Josh Inglis, it seemed imminent. Surprisingly, Inglis fumbled the throw, missing the stumps despite their close proximity

What seemed like a tense moment had transformed into a side-splitting highlight, leaving everyone in the ground in stitches. The miss was so unusual that even the commentators couldn’t resist the urge to laugh.
