The Big Bash League 2022-23 has been an entertaining affair so far as fans have got to see some memorable matches in the season. After the end of the league stage, the action has now moved to the knockout stages. Melbourne Renegades and Brisbane Heat got head-to-head against each other in the Knockout match. During the second innings of the match, a magnificent flick by Josh Brown caught the attention of fans as it went way back into the stands.

The incident took place on the second ball of the fifth over bowled by Will Sutherland. Brown put his wrist-work on display as he flicked the good length delivery over deep mid-wicket for a massive six.

Coming back to the match, Brisbane Heat captain Usman Khawaja won the toss and elected to bowl first. The star-studded opening pair of Melbourne Renegades walked out to the middle to give their side a brilliant start at the top. However, they suffered a big blow as Xavier Bartlett dismissed Guptill for just one in the second over.

After the early blow, Marsh and Sam Harmer got together at the crease and added 58 runs for the second wicket. The partnership was broken as Xavier Bartlett once again struck for the Renegades dismissing Sam Harper. Marsh continued his innings from the other end as he remained unbeaten on 82 off 53 balls with the help of nine fours and two sixes. The Renegades finished their innings on 162/5 at the end of their allotted 20 overs.

Xavier Bartlett was the pick of the bowlers for Brisbane Heat who picked up 3/18 in four overs. Michael Neser also picked up two wickets.

Usman Khawaja set up a magnificent victory for Brisbane Heat

In reply, Heat openers Usman Khawaja and Josh Brown added 75 runs for the first wicket. The partnership was ended as Brown got dismissed by David Moody. Captain Khawaja continued his innings forward and went on to score 59 off 47 balls with the help of eight fours and one six. Courtesy of his brilliant knock, Heat chased down the target of 163 with seven balls to spare and won the match by seven wickets.

Xavier Bartlett was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his three-wicket haul. Brisbane Heat will next face Sydney Sixers in the Challenger on Thursday.
