Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has had a torrid time over the last three and a half months as he sustained a freak leg injury and has been out of competitive cricket since Australia crashed out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 on home soil. Maxwell has been a key player for Australia, especially in white-ball formats over the years.

When he returned to competitive cricket as he represented Victoria in a Sheffield Shield game against South Australia, he copped a bad blow on the wrist while he was trying to catch a ball in the slips. Maxwell tried to take the catch as the ball flew towards him, but the ball bounced awkwardly in front of him and hit his wrist. He was in pain and did not play in the innings thereafter.

I am fully fit for a one-day game – Glenn Maxwell

Luckily for Maxwell, the scans revealed that there was no sign of a fracture. Maxwell is looking to make a comeback into the Australian white-ball side come the three-match ODI series against India. “It’s been a pretty long journey over the last three-and-a-half months, so a lot of early morning sessions, gym, rehab, pool sessions, physio. To feel like I am at the back end of that now and able to play some cricket is something I’m proud of.” He told the press in an interaction as quoted by Sportskeeda.

“I think probably 80 per cent. I have a fair bit to go until I am fully fit for a one-day game, which is what I’m working towards,” he added. This news could come as a bit of a bummer for Bengaluru fans as well as the man from Victoria is an important cog in the wheel for the side and has been so since 2021. He has proved a lot of balance and depth to the franchise with his all-around skills.

India and Australia are playing a Test series in India currently, where India have taken a 2-0 series lead, courtesy of a win by an innings and 123 runs in Nagpur and also a six-wicket win in Delhi. Australia have had injury issues as Josh Hazelwood is ruled out of the India series with an Achilles niggle in his left leg and also Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green have been nursing injuries.
