Watch: Fans trolling Babar Azam with ‘Zimbabar’ chants take ugly turn during PSL 2024 match

During Karachi Kings’ match against Peshawar Zalmi former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam received heavy trolls from fans of Pakistan Super Kings (PSL). Some fans started shouting ‘Zimbabar’ to Babar Azam who was sitting with technical staff. After hearing this chat Babar Azam looked angry and threatened to throw a water bottle towards them.

Babar Azam didn’t throw a water bottle as he stopped midway through the action and sat down in the chair. He looked angry because of his countrymen trolling him in the Pakistan Super League.

Since making his debut in 2015 for Pakistan he has been a star batter for his team. At a time, he was compared with India batter Virat Kohli. For the last 2-3 years Babar Azam has been struggling to find his form with the bat. He couldn’t make runs in big matches for Pakistan. Till now Babar Azam has played 18 matches against Zimbabwe across all formats and scored 693 runs with an average of 57.75.

Therefore, the chat of ‘Zimbabar’ originates from it as many fans believe that to get back in his form, he needs a series against Zimbabwe to end his poor form of runs.

Rough year for Babar Azam

The year 2023 didn’t go well for Babar Azam. In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Pakistan led by Babar Azam finished in 5th position. They also lost the Asia Cup under his captaincy. Due to poor form, he was sacked from captaincy from all formats of the game.

After the ODI World Cup, Babar Azam failed to score runs against Australia in the three-match Test series. Pakistan’s next assignment was a five-match T20I series against New Zealand. In the T20I series, he performed well. In the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, he has a chance to give a strong message to his critics by showing his batting skills.
