Australia and New Zealand are currently locking horns at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala with the latter chasing a total of 389 in the ODI World Cup 2023. Earlier, the Kiwis had won the toss and opted to field first at the picturesque ground. The Aussies made 388 before being bowled out in the final over of the innings.

Australia got off to a marvellous start courtesy of the openers, Travis Head and David Warner who shared a 175-run stand for the 1st wicket. Head, who is on a comeback, made a fantastic 109 at an astonishing strike rate of 162.69 while the experienced Warner fell 19 short of his own ton. Later, vital contributions from the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis and Pat Cummins propelled Australia to their eventual score. For the Kiwis, Trent Boult and Glenn Phillips picked up three wickets each but Phillips’s strikes were the ones that helped the team pull things back after the opening blitz. Phillips got rid of Warner and Head in quick succession before dismissing Steve Smith after a while.

In response, New Zealand got off to a good start as the openers, Will Young and Devon Conway shared a 61-run partnership. However, both were dismissed in quick succession. Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra then steadied the ship before the former fell to Adam Zampa in the 24th over. It remains to be seen if the Kiwis can chase the total down. If they do, the game will surely go down as one of the greatest clashes between the Trans-Tasman rivals.

David Warner dances while fielding (again)

David Warner once again entertained the crowd as he did the iconic “Pushpa” dance move while fielding during the ongoing game and the crowd erupted in deafening cheers. Warner, who recently turned 36,  celebrated his two hundred in the World Cup by doing the Pushpa celebration as well. Over a period of time, Warner has shown his appreciation for Indian culture. It also helped to further cement his status as a global fan favourite.
