The stage was set in Pallekele on 2 September 2023 when India locked horns with Pakistan in a Group A encounter in the ongoing Asia Cup. Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. After a poor start, the Men in Blue managed to put up a competitive 267-run target for Babar Azam and his men. But, after their innings, no further play took place due to heavy rain.

After waiting for some time, finally, the match was called off and both teams were awarded one point each. Seeing such a disappointing end to the much-anticipated clash, fans were not happy. A well-known, Pakistan journalist, Farid Khan was at the stands and now, he shared a video on social media where Colombo’s road was seen flooded with water.

Here is the shared tweet:

Still, 7 matches to be played in Sri Lanka in the ongoing Asia Cup

He shared the video with a caption: “Visuals from Colombo after all the rains, expected to rain next week as well How are we going to have the Super Four round there? #AsiaCup2023.” This tournament is taking place based on the proposed hybrid model from PCB. Out of 13 matches, four are being played in Pakistan and nine are being played in Sri Lanka.

Out of six ‘Super 4’ clashes, five will be played in Colombo while one game will be played in Lahore. Even, the final is scheduled to take place in Colombo. India will take on Nepal on 4 September in Pallekele. But, as per reports, that match can also be disrupted by rain. So, the reporter also shared concerns over the future of this tournament going forward into the next week due to the rain threat. Even, the former PCB Chairman, Najam Sethi slammed ACC for choosing Sri Lanka over UAE to conduct the tournament.

He tweeted: “How disappointing! Rain mars the greatest contest in cricket. But this was forecast. As PCB Chair, I urged the ACC to play in UAE but poor excuses were made to accommodate Sri Lanka. Too hot in Dubai, they said. But it was as hot when the Asia Cup was played there last time in Sep 2022 or when IPL was played there in April 2014 and Sep 2020. Politics over sport. Unforgivable!”
