Virender Sehwag reveals main cause of injury for current Indian cricketers

India will take on Australia in the three-match ODI series which starts on Friday. The games will be played in Mumbai, Vishakhapatnam and Chennai. Hardik Pandya will lead India in the first ODI in place of Rohit Sharma. Australia will be led by Steve Smith instead of Pat Cummins. This series will take place just before the Indian T20 League. More and more Indian cricketers have got injured recently such as Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has revealed the reason why Indian cricketers have got injured. He spoke on YouTuber Ranveer Alhabadia’s show. Sehwag emphasised that the players give more importance to weight training, and this has a detrimental effect on them. This is the main cause behind Indian cricketers getting injured.  Many Indian players have got injured and missed important tournaments. He said weightlifting has resulted in rigidity and sourness.

“There is no place for weightlifting in cricket. Instead, you should do the exercises that improve your game. Weightlifting will give you strength, but will also increase stiffness and soreness.” Sehwag stated. “In our days, Aakash Chopra, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, MS Dhoni, or Yuvraj Singh, nobody was ruled out due to back, hamstring, or quadricep injuries.”  He said his mates did not suffer these injuries.

The former right-hander further went on to say that the modern players get injured at the gym and not on the field. “Whereas KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer, have all dealt with such injuries. They are getting injured due to weight training. They get injured in the gym, not on the ground.” Sehwag further said that personalisation is the key at present.

“We didn’t do any weight training in our days, but we were still able to play cricket all day. This could be Virat Kohli’s funda. But not everyone is Virat Kohli. You need to prepare a training program based on your body.”
