Yashasvi Jaiswal is all set to make his Test debut for team India in the first Test against the West Indies. The young batter from Mumbai has been scoring truckloads of runs in first-class cricket for his team. The Southpaw has been in and around India’s A squad for a while now. When Ruturaj Gaikwad missed the finals of the World Test Championship due to his wedding, Jaiswal was brought into the list of standby players. The 21-year-old was picked by the selectors for India’s tour of the West Indies due to his consistent performances in the Indian domestic circuit.
India is currently in the Caribbean islands for a tour of the West Indies. To get acclimatized to the conditions, India played a practice match among the inter-squad players. Jaiswal looked in terrific touch and scored 54(76) before getting declared as retired out. The extremely talented batter has been in terrific form in the last 12 months. The Suriya-born batter has scored runs in every possible tournament, from Ranji Trophy to Duleep Trophy, and even in the Indian Premier League against some of the best bowlers in the world.
A consistent performer in first-class cricket
Jaiswal has played fifteen first-class games and scored a whopping 1844 runs at an incredible average of 80.2. In Duleep Trophy 2022, Jaiswal scored 497 runs in 5 innings at a spectacular average of 99.40 including 2 hundred. He was the best batter in the tournament by some distance. In the final of the tournament, Yashasvi scored an exceptional double hundred in the second innings that helped West Zone to win the tournament.
The youngster is a highly talented and multi-skilled player. Right from his Under-19 days, the Rajasthan Royals batter always excelled at the highest level. In Under-19 World Cup 2020, Jaiswal was the player of the tournament despite losing the final against Bangladesh. He’s also a handy bowler with his right arm leg spin bowling. Someone like him can be handy at the top, especially with his useful bowling. He’s aggressive with the bat and always looks for runs.
