‘USA ko toh hila he daala’ – Fans react to Sean William’s mammoth innings of 174 in One-day World Cup 2023 Qualifiers
Sean Williams played a devastating knock in the continuing group-stage encounter of the Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 against the USA cricket team on Monday. The Zimbabwean captain scored 174 runs off 101 balls to help his team amass a massive 408-run total in 50 overs. Zimbabwe has already qualified for the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers Super Sixes phase. For their group stage encounter versus the USA at the Harare Sports Club, they rested a few important players, notably captain Craig Ervine.
In the absence of Craig Ervine, Sean Williams took the pitch for the toss. Monank Patel, the captain of the USA, claimed the toss and decided to field first. The USA bowlers allowed 408 runs to be scored in their 50 overs, so the choice did nothing to help his team.
Captain Sean Williams’ magnificent knock against the United States
Williams hit a captain’s knock at the Harare Sports Club while entertaining the Zimbabwean spectators. In his 101-ball innings, he smashed 21 fours and five sixes. He was caught out on 174, which would have allowed him to surpass Charles Coventry’s milestone for the most runs scored by a Zimbabwean in ODI cricket. However, Abhishek Paradkar dismissed him.
With the all-rounders, Ryan Burl, Sikandar Raza, and the opener Joylord Gumbie, Sean Williams formed crucial combinations. Gumbie and Williams put up 160 runs just the second wicket before the latter was dismissed for 78.
Ryan Burl and Sikandar Raza made lightning-quick strikes of 48 and 47, respectively. Burl scored 47 runs off just 16 balls, while Raza scored 48 runs off 27 pitches. Their appearances significantly contributed to Zimbabwe amassing their highest team score in ODI cricket. Zimbabwe will finish on top of their group if they manage to win the game today against the United States, which is a highly possible outcome. Williams received a barrage of plaudits from cricket fans on Twitter for his outstanding batting display.

I hope Zimbabwe qualify for World Cup. 400 runs, that too against world's only super power, is no mean feat😁

What improvement they have shown. Sad that only two of Srilanka, Westindies and Zimbabwe can qualify. ICC must include more teams

Even if it is against a very low ranked side USA it is still an amazing achievement from Zimbabwe. To score 400 is not an easy task. This will further inspire them. Sean Williams in particular was absolutely brilliant and in the form of his life!
