Hyderabad will be looking to win a second title since 2016.

South Africa’s opening batter Aiden Markram has been appointed as the captain of the Hyderabad franchise. The Protea recently led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to a title-winning campaign at the SA20. He has also been a vital cog for Hyderabad in the Indian T20 League.
Markram will bring his captaincy skills to the fore. As a player, he has made 252 runs in seven matches that he has played. He has an average of 40.53 and a strike rate of 134.09 in the Indian T20 League. He has scored three half-centuries and can also be a wonderful part-time bowling option and add depth to the Hyderabad side.
He has also led South Africa as a skipper in the U-19 World Cup in 2014 in the United Arab Emirates. The Proteas were victorious that year and won the title. Markram has shown that he can be a high utility batter in the middle order and also has a wonderful game plan against spin. The right-handed batter has scored 879 runs at an average of 38.21 and a strike rate of 147.73.

In the 31 matches that he has represented the country in he has made nine half-centuries with the highest score of 70. He has played one season for Hyderabad in 2022. He has also played for the Punjab franchise. Two likely candidates were going to become the new captain of Hyderabad after Kane Willamson’s departure.
Hyderabad revamped its coaching staff going into the 2023 season. Brian Lara was named as Head coach. Dale Steyn will be the fast-bowling coach. Hemang Badani will be the fielding coach. Hyderabad last qualified for the playoffs in 2020 when the Indian T20 league was held in UAE. They have had consecutive group stage-finishes going into 2023.
It came down to Mayank Agarwal and Aiden Markram who had some captaincy experience in T20 Leagues. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has also captained the franchise but only as a stop-gap arrangement. In the end, the franchise went with Markram as their new skipper.
