Pakistan Cricket Team began their 2023 ODI World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on Friday. The game was played in Hyderabad where the Pakistani team had played their two warm-up games.

After losses to New Zealand and Australia in the Warm-up matches, Pakistan were looking for a bright start to the tournament. The Netherlands team though had other ideas as they shocked the Pakistani batting line-up.

Scott Edwards won the toss and chose to bowl first on a hot day in Hyderabad. Hasan Ali who replaced Naseem Shah in the squad made his way into the playing XI. The Dutch had reached the tournament at the expense of test-playing nations like Zimbabwe and West Indies.

Ramiz Raja uses ‘Technical Glitch’ to take a dig at Pakistan’s batting order –

Pakistan was reduced to 38 for 3 in the tenth over to send shockwaves amongst the fans. Fakhar Zaman scored 12 before getting caught and bowled by Van Beek. Babar Azam was dismissed for five runs as the Dutch team leapt for joy. Imam Ul Haq was the third batter when he was out caught by Aryan Dutt off Van Meekeren for 15.

The official broadcast scoreboard had gone invisible for a few seconds. Ramiz Raja who was commentating used this as a chance to poke fun at the top order of Pakistan. The former Pakistan skipper said “Technical Problems, a bit like Pakistani top order”.

At 38/3 the Dutch team was over the moon but in walked Mohammad Rizwan. The wicket-keeper batter added 120 runs for the fourth wicket with Saud Shakeel. The pair played with intent before Shakeel was out for 68 runs. Rizwan too departed for 68 when he was bowled through the gate by Bas De Leede.

Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan then combined to add 64 runs for the 7th wicket. Shadab was out for 32 while Nawaz fell for 39 as Pakistan was rocked at regular intervals. Pakistan was bowled out for 286 in the 49th over with Haris Rauf the last man out for 16.

Bas De Leede the bowling charts for the Netherlands with 4/62 from his 9 overs. The medium-pace bowler was in the middle of getting a hat trick only to be thwarted by Shaheen Shah Afridi. Hyderabad is considered a good ground to chase the Pakistani pace trio though may have other ideas in mind.
