Ever since his promotion to the top order, Rohit Sharma has been a sensation for Team India in all formats of the game. Once settled at the crease, his aggressive play and ability to score big sets him apart from other openers. In the history of ODI cricket, only eight players have scored a double century, but Rohit has done so three times. In his 246 ODI matches for India, the veteran cricketer has scored 9922 runs, which includes 30 centuries.
The Mumbai cricketer has scored a total of 6 centuries in the ODI World Cup, five of them coming in the 2019 edition, a record in a single World Cup edition. With the 2023 ODI World Cup around the corner, India will be hoping for those daddy centuries from the captain.
In the second of the seven-match ODI series during Australia’s tour of India, the visitors posted a challenging score of 360 runs on the board. All the top five of the Australian batting line-up scored half-centuries with captain George Bailey being the leading-scorer (92 off 50 balls). However, in reply, India needed only three of their batters to chase down this mammoth target.
Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan (95 off 86) built a 176-run partnership for the first wicket before Virat Kohli (100 off 52) joined the party to finish off the game. In a show of absolute carnage from the Indian top order, Rohit smashed 141 off 123 balls with 17 fours and four sixes to lead India to a nine-wicket victory in 43.3 overs.
