It was the semifinal match between South Africa and New Zealand in Auckland in the 2015 ODI World Cup. In a rain-affected game, South Africa posted a great total of 281 runs in 43 overs. Though the pitch was flat, chasing 298 in 43 overs due to the D/L method was highly difficult, especially in a semifinal.
South Africa was blown off by the start of Brendon McCullum, who scored 59 runs in 26 balls. Grant Elliott and Corey Anderson continued the assault on the South African bowlers. Towards the end moments of the game, so many chances went down from the South African players.
A couple of run-outs were not successful, and a couple of catches were dropped from the fielders, which all contributed to the downfall of South Africa. Grant Elliott’s 84*(73) helped the Kiwis to reach their maiden World Cup finals. AB De Villiers crying after the match happens to be one of the most heartbreaking images in cricket.
