The Asia Cup 2023 is going through turmoil at the moment. The Indian Cricket Board and the Pakistan Cricket Board are at loggerheads concerning where the tournament could be hosted. The PCB are the host of the multilateral tournament this year, but India are reluctant to play in the tournament in Pakistan.

The talks are on but the decision about the finalisation of the venue for hosting the tournament has been postponed to March. Another report said that all the participating members in the Asia Cup have been asked to get government clearance to travel to Pakistan. The PCB, however, has quashed all these reports saying they are rumours and that no such discussions happened during the meeting in Bahrain.

Pakistan, in a huge rebuttal, has thundered at what has taken place and has given a strong reply in a statement.”Cricinfo, in its story under the headline Decision on Asia Cup venue postponed to March 2023, stated: ‘In addition, all ACC members are believed to have been asked to seek their own government’s positions on whether their teams can travel to Pakistan.’

Pakistan will not forgo the hosting rights of the Asia Cup 2023 – Najam Sethi

The PCB wishes to clarify that no such matters were raised in the meeting, nor did any member indicate any intention to seek government clearance for playing in Pakistan. Sri Lanka has recently visited Pakistan in 2017 and 2019, while Bangladesh has toured Pakistan in 2020. Australia also recently toured Pakistan and so did England.

In the 2023-2027 Future Tours Programme (FTP), which has been agreed upon and announced by all Apex Cricket Council Members, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have confirmed their tours to Pakistan. Najam Sethi the PCB chairman has categorically told Jay Shah that “Pakistan will not forgo the hosting rights of either the Asia Cup or the Champions Trophy in 2025″.

On top of that he also added: “If the Indian Cricket Board cannot get clearance from its government for the Asia Cup, Pakistan will also not travel to India for the (ODI) World Cup.”
