The former skipper Virat Kohli has been a star with the bat for India over the years but has been under the scanner recently for not scoring the runs and for having a prolonged run of dry form. He was given rest for the Zimbabwe series. Later on, some reports emerged that the selectors wanted Virat to play the Zimbabwe series so that he could regain his old touch and get into the top groove just before the Asia Cup. But in the end, those reports turned out to be false. The veteran cricketer was eventually excluded from the squad for the Zimbabwe series.
