West Indies and Scotland locked horns in the Group B game of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart. The two-time winners (West Indies) won the toss and elected to field first. Their decision started proving wrong as the Scottish openers, George Munsey and Michael Jones stitched a partnership of 52 runs in just 5.3 overs before the rain interrupted the game.
Thankfully for the teams and their fans, the rain didn’t stayed for long and the overs weren’t cut down. After the resumption, the Maroon Brigade started taking the control of the game. Former skipper Jason Holder took two wickets in his first two overs to reduce the opposition’s scoring rate. For a considerable period, the Windies bowlers were bowling the right lengths.
Calum Macleod, who had a poor tournament with the bat in the last edition of the tournament, increased the scoring rate. The right-hander scored 23 off just 14 balls. Thanks to Munsey’s 66 not out and Christopher Greaves’s unbeaten 16, the European team reached a fighting total of 160/5. For the former champions, Alzarri Jopesh and Jason Holder took two wickets each while Odean Smith took one.
In reply, the Nicholas Pooran started well as they scored 53 runs after losing two wickets in the powerplay. After the field restrictions were lifted, the West Indies kept losing regular wickets. This is why they were finding it hard to keep up with the required run-rate. For Scotland, Mark Watt bowled a magnificent spell of four overs, 12 runs, and three wickets. Apart from him, the other bowlers also chipped in and kept the pressure on the opposition batters.
The likes of Brad Wheal and Michael Leask took two wickets each. On the other hand, Josh Davey and Safyaan Sharif took one each. They restricted the opposition on 118 all-out in 18.3 overs, winning the game by 42 runs. Now, the Windies need to win their both of the remaining games to advance to the Super 12.
Such an awesome start to the T20I World Cup. Namibia & Scotland doing well against traditional giants of the format. Higher the number of competitive teams, higher the quality of cricket overall.

Richie Berrington was on receiving end of 1 of the worst umpiring decisions in ICC tournament history just before the rain arrived vs West Indies at 2018 WCQ in Zimbabwe, a decision that cost Scotland a place at 2019 WC in England. Imagine how good he must feel as captain today. pic.twitter.com/TvaG3skHQw
