‘The pressure of expectation…’ – Virender Sehwag’s take on Yashasvi Jaiswal’s comparison with legends

After his knock of 209 runs in the second Test match he was praised and was getting compared to cricket legends. Till now he has played 6 Test matches and scored 637 runs with an average of 57.90. After his brilliant knock fans started to add his name to the great cricket list.

Former Indian cricket Virender Sehwag has dismissed the comparisons without any hesitation. Virender Sehwag stated “He is a very good batsman but I think comparisons are too early,” Sehwag said as quoted by HT.

Allow young players to grow without pressure – Gautam Gambhir

Former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir also supported Sehwag’s statement. He also added it’s important to allow young players to grow without pressure. Gautam Gambhir also praised Yashasvi Jaiswal for his performance and warned not to over-hype the young players.

“I want to congratulate the youngster for his achievement, but, more importantly, I want to tell everyone that let the young man play. We have seen in the past that in India we have a habit, especially the media, to over-hype their achievements, and give them tags and make them look like heroes,” Gambhir had said.

“The pressure of expectation gets the better of them, and the players are not able to play their natural game. Let him grow, and, enjoy his cricket,” Gambhir said. In the ongoing Test match in Rajkot Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed on 10 runs by England pacer Mark Wood.
