Birmingham Phoenix and Southern Brave faced off in the eighth match for the Hundred ball tournament. Southern brave won the toss and opted to field first. The Birmingham Phoenix started hitting the right notes from the word go. Will Smeed, the opening batter launched an all-out attack on the Southern Brave bowlers. He smashed a scintillating 101* from just 50 balls. This superb inning consisted of 8 fours and 6 sixes.

The Southern Brave bowlers had no answer to the assault of Will Smeed. The bowlers were carted all over the park. George Garton, the left arm quick, had a day to forget with the ball. He gave a whopping 43 runs off just the 15 balls that he bowled. Tymal Mills who recently came back into English colors gave away 33 runs of just 20 balls. Chris Jordan and J Lintott were expensive in their allotted 20 balls bowled giving away 29 and 33 runs respectively as they picked up just the two wickets between them.

Birmingham Phoenix eventually won by 53 runs over Southern Brave

Will Smeed was solely responsible for getting the Birmingham Phoenix to a strong total of 176 for the loss of just 4 wickets. All the other batters got starts but could not convert them into substantial scores. The other batters included the likes of Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, and Mathew Wade and so that talks about the quality of Will Smeed’s innings.

The Birmingham bowlers were all over Southern Brave’s batters who fell like a pack of cards. Henry Brooks picked up a five-for and gave away only 25 runs in his 20 balls. He was ably supported by the Australian import Kane Richardson who picked up 3 for 19 in his 15 balls bowled.

Tom Helm and Benny Howell picked up a wicket each and gave away 24 runs off 20 balls and 8 runs off just the 10 balls bowled.
Southern Brave had an amazing overseas quality which included the likes of Quinton De Kock, Marcus Stonis, and Tim David who can be match winners in their own right but they just could not get going yesterday. Birmingham Phoenix eventually registered a commanding win of 53 runs over Southern Brave.
