‘The intent will be the same’ – Suryakumar Yadav aiming to fix his spot in ODIs following his T20I success

India won the T20I series against New Zealand by 1-0 on Tuesday after the rain-struck third T20I ended in a tie. Chasing the target of 161, India were 75/4 after 9 overs. As per the DLS method, both teams were tied on the score after nine overs when the rain came pouring down. Since no further play was possible the game ended in a tie and India were announced as the winners of the series.

Star batter Suryakumar Yadav was awarded ‘Player of the Series’ for his scintillating knock in the second T20I of 111 off 51 balls. “Really happy with the way things went, would have loved to have a full game but I am glad we got the series win,” said Suryakumar Yadav in the post-match presentation ceremony.

After his breathtaking hundred, Suryakumar could only manage to score 13 off 10 balls in the third T20I. India were reeling at 21/3 during their chase when Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav came together at the crease. The duo stitched a 39-run partnership and helped the visitors cross the 50-run mark in 4.4 overs.

“The weather is not in our hands. The pressure is always here, but there is no fun when there is not. I am just enjoying my batting and not carrying any baggage,” Suryakumar Yadav further said.

After ruling the T20Is throughout the year, the star batter will be aiming to leave a mark in the upcoming three-match ODI series as well. Talking about his approach in the upcoming series he said, “Can take a bit of time, but the approach and intent will be the same. These things are not in our control. We can just express ourselves.”

Suryakumar Yadav has played 13 ODIs so far scoring 340 runs at an average of 34 having two half-centuries to his name.

After the T20 series victory, India will aim for an ODI series win with Shikhar Dhawan leading the side. The first ODI of the series will be played on 25th November at Eden Park, Auckland.
