The Indian Cricket Board has announced Mohammed Siraj as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah, who was ruled out from the South Africa series and the 20-20 World Cup 2022 which will be held in Australia. Bumrah was out of the first T20 as he complained of back pain. It was subsequently reported that the ace of pace has been ruled out due to a back stress fracture.

Bumrah is currently under the lens of the medical team of the Indian Cricket Board. It is now confirmed that he will miss the South Africa series event after he missed the 1st T20 due to back pain. “Bumrah is not going to play the T20 World Cup for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

In the 1st T20I against South Africa, India put up a spirited bowling performance and skittled out South Africa for just 106 -8 in their 20 overs with Arshdeep Singh and Deepak Chahar being the wreckers in chief.

Mohammed Siraj’s performance in T20s

Meanwhile, Siraj shot to fame when he had a good season on his debut with the Hyderabad Team in the Indian T20 League. His stock has grown ever since then. Siraj was picked up by the Bangalore side in 2018 and has played for them ever since. He did not have a good season in 2019 but Bangalore struck with him. He had better seasons in 2020 and 2021, where he picked up 11 wickets in both seasons. The pacer then had an under-par season in 2022, where he took 9 wickets from 15 games.

Mohammed Siraj was not in the T20I scheme of things for India and the last T20I that he represented the Men in Blue in was in Dharamsala way back in February. So for him to get a sudden T20I call-up has raised quite a few eyebrows.
