The India vs England series is finally levelled as India has managed to beat England in the 2nd Test at the YRS Reddy stadium in Vizag by 106 runs. The Test match started in great fashion for the hosts where they scored 396 runs in the first innings on the back of a brilliant double century by Yashasavi Jaiswal, who despite losing partners still held his ground and got India close to that 400 mark. The England batters were looking good at one stage playing their positive style of cricket and there were a couple of good knocks from Ben Stokes and Zack Crawley. Unfortunately, Jasprit Bumrah came to the party with an amazing 6-wicket haul to get the English team bowled out for 253 and be in control in the second innings with a big lead.

The England Team seemed to be making another comeback in the match with early strikes from James Anderson. Still, this time it was Shubman Gill who finally came to the party and finally scored a century to comeback from his earlier run drought in Test cricket. This innings was a good reply to the critics who were insinuating the talented batter would be dropped in the next few matches. This innings was enough for the Indians to give a competitive target of 399 to England to win the Test match and despite another beautiful innings from Crawley the England team were finally bowled out for 292 and lost the game by a big margin with India levelling the series 1-1.

Bumrah the real hero

The knocks from Jaiswal and Shubman Gill were no doubt phenomenal especially for how early they are into their career, but the contribution of Jasprit Bumrah in this game was the real game-changer. What makes his spells even more remarkable is that it was not a wicket that was offering a lot of assistance to the pacers. Bumrah was consistent in his line and length and was using his variations really well. There were some great deliveries bowled by the 30-year-old pacer and he has shown yet again why he is a reliable asset to the team. His 9-wicket haul in this match kept the Indians in control of the match every time he came to bowl.

What we have to remember is that this was definitely not the rank-turner pitch that we expect in these conditions. The pitch was still slow and low and there was that odd ball which either kept low or bounced higher than we expected. However it was not really a tough wicket to bat on for the batters. England did show glimpses of brilliance in this match and their positive style of cricket was something that got them back in the game. This got them into trouble as well. It was Zack Crawley who was the only one who did play his shots but chose to balance his innings and show some maturity. This was still a great Test match which had its moments where both the teams gave themselves a chance in the middle and was a joy to watch.
