Even though Anupam Kher has personally taken part in protests, he says artists shouldn’t take on activist roles. His next film, ‘Kaagaz 2′, is about the detrimental effects of protests and rallies. Under the direction of VK Prakash, the film emphasizes the struggles faced by common people as a result of demonstrations and gatherings.  In an interview with PTI, Kher said, “Entertainers and actors shouldn’t be activists. I’ve spoken up about things that have upset me on an individual basis and taken the necessary action. It doesn’t matter that I lost a lot of people’s favour. At the end of the day, I have to sleep peacefully with my thoughts.”

The actor stated that ‘negotiations’ are the best method to resolve conflicts. He participated in the 2011 India Against Corruption movement. He added, “We are a sovereign nation because of the ‘Aandolan’ that Mahatma Gandhi ji carried out. We are the result of the non-cooperation and Quit India movements, but the Indian people were united; it wasn’t about helping a select few people at the expense of others.”

Anupam Kher drops controversial remarks:

Regarding the current farmer protests, Bollywood star Anupam Kher stated that although everyone has the right to protest, it shouldn’t have an impact on everyday people’s lives. He expressed, “Everyone is entitled to the freedom of movement and expression, but not at the expense of other people. Just because it’s called a ‘farmers protest,’ I don’t think farmers nationwide feel that way—farmers are givers. This is the current situation in our nation. We are told that we are discussing Annadaata, which makes us feel defensive. Taxpayers, in my opinion, are also advancing the nation’s development. Making the lives of regular people miserable, in my opinion, is unacceptable,” the actor continued.”

The actor, Kher voiced his dissatisfaction with the series of events that transpired after protesting farmers stormed Delhi’s historic Red Fort, with reference to the 2021 farmers’ protest. The actor added, “That visual will always haunt me when protestors reached Red Fort and they took out my country’s flag and put some other flag, I’ll not sympathise with such people, even if it is at the cost of being unpopular with some people.”
