Till yesterday, there were reports that the first Test between Pakistan and England would be postponed by a day or two. A lot of English players were down with an identified virus and it didn’t look like they would be fit in time to play the Test match. However, most of them did manage to recover and the first Test is underway. England are batting first after winning the toss.
Ahead of the game, head coach Brendon McCullum stressed the fact that they will entertain the fans by playing aggressive cricket and that the defeat wouldn’t harm their sentiments too much. England openers have vindicated the statement by getting the team off to a destructive start.
Zack Crawley set his intentions quite clear in the first over itself. Naseem Shah conceded three fours in the very first over as England had scored 14 runs in the first over of the innings. On the other hand, Ben Duckett got off the mark with a boundary in the very next over, giving the fans a hint of what they were going to witness for the rest of the day.
Boundaries kept coming at regular intervals as Pakistan bowlers failed to put pressure on English openers with the new ball. Zack Crawley and Ben Duckett stitched a 63-run partnership for the opening wicket inside the first 10 overs.
The duo upped the ante, thereafter, as the next two overs saw the them smashing as many as 5 fours. Crawley raised his fifty in just 38 deliveries, helping England reach the 100-run mark in just 13.5 overs. Duckett, on the other hand, made a run-a-ball fifty on his Test comeback. At Lunch, England have managed to score 174 runs without any loss of wickets.
There has been no assistance for the bowlers from the pitch, whatsoever, as England are likely to keep scoring runs freely for the rest of the day as well. The fans have come up with hilarious memes after Pakistan failed to pick a single wicket on day 1 of the first Test.
Here’s a look at some of the reactions:

Don't understand the purpose of making such dead pitches when you are still in the race of WTC. Get result oriented pitches. Pakistan will anyways be knocked out of WTC Finals if they play two drawn test matches against Eng. Give your bowlers a chance to win atleast.#PAKvsEng

England 100 up within first hour of the first Test from 13.5 overs. That's about three balls faster (lesser) than what Pakistan took to get to 100 in #T20WorldCup final and 6 balls faster than what India took in semis 😉. #PAKvsEng

I can bet if Pakistan would have batted first they wouldn't have scored half of what England have scored right now.#PAKvsENG

England's highest ever score before lunch, and the highest Pakistan have conceded. Think the visitors might just have shaded this session. #PAKvsENG
