Team India women suffered a six-wicket defeat against Australia women in the first ODI game on December 28 at the iconic Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai. Speaking about the game here, Team India captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and invited Australian women to field first. Notably, after being opted to bat first, India women were able to post 282/8 in the given 50 overs.

India women’s opener Yastika Bhatia hammered 49 runs, while Shafali Verma was dismissed for just one run. In addition, Richa Ghosh made 21 runs; however, India’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was departed for just 9 runs. However, middle-order batters Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma scored 82 and 21 runs, respectively, to help India post a decent total.

However, during the chase, the Australian women had the best start as their top-order batters, Litchfield and Perry, went on to hammer 78 and 75 runs, respectively, which gave them the great start. Moreover, Beth Mooney also got 42 runs and secured the great stand with Tahila McGrath, who piled up an unbeaten 68 runs to help the Australian women chase down the total with 21 balls to spare.

Just need to back ourselves and play that aggressive brand of cricket: Harmanpreet Kaur

Meanwhile, India’s captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, expressed his disappointment after the loss. The middle-order batter reveals that they had posted a great total despite having a bad start, but they failed in bowling, which cost them the match.

“I think we managed a good score, but I think the fielding was not upto the mark. It is something that didn’t really work well for us. After a while, dew was there but the bowlers were trying their best to attack the stumps, but fielding was something I feel played a really big role today. Pooja got us back into the game with her batting and we need to keep doing the right things. Just need to back ourselves and play that aggressive brand of cricket,” Harmanpreet Kaur said at the post-match presentation.
