Suryakumar Yadav has been the most consistent batter for India in the T20I format for the last 2-3 years. He is the fastest batter to reach 2000 international in T20I cricket in terms of balls and he will be the key to India’s road to glory in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the US.
Unfortunately, Suryakumar Yadav got his ankle twisted while fielding last month in South Africa which ruled him out of International cricket for an indefinite period as he underwent ankle surgery. Adding onto his injury woes, he was further diagnosed with Sports Hernia which required him to undergo another surgery on his groin.
33-year-old star batter on January 17 took to social media to inform his fans about his successful surgery. The batter will soon join the field before the commencement of the IPL. Suryakumar went to Germany to treat his Sports Hernia, where he was operated on by a specialist in Munich. According to reports the star batter will take another 4-5 weeks before making a comeback onto the field.
Fellow countryman KL Rahul recently underwent a comparable operation and experienced a swift recovery. However, the timeline for Suryakumar Yadav’s recovery might be extended. His sports hernia surgery followed an earlier ankle operation, which he had after sustaining an injury in a recently concluded T20I series against South Africa.
Suryakumar Yadav first came into the limelight with his consistent game-changing performances in the IPL. The selectors and the Indian management continued to ignore him despite a couple of outstanding seasons with the Mumbai Indians but ultimately was picked in the Indian side in 2021 and the explosive batter hasn’t since looked back.
Suryakumar Yadav is an important cog in India’s T20 batting line-up and therefore the Indian cricket board is managing his injury with caution so that he is fully fit and in his old form before the T20 World Cup. For that, he will have to get completely fit before the IPL 2024 and use it as a platform to get his touch back before the coveted T20 World Cup.
