Uncapped Indian players have made significant contributions to the Indian Premier League 2023. While some of the league’s up-and-comers, such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ayush Badoni, as well as Nehal Wadhera, have put on remarkable performances this year, many veterans have had a breakout campaign. Jitesh Sharma of the Punjab Kings is one among them. Jitesh, who often bats within the middle and lower middle order, has so far amassed 260 runs in 11 games with an exceptional strike rate of 160.49.

The wicketkeeper-batter experienced an excellent campaign last year likewise, but Jitesh has put together another outstanding edition and is expected to be called up by India for the limited-overs teams. Jitesh had previously been a member of the Team India team, filling in for Sanju Samson during the T20I series versus Sri Lanka just recently, but he was not selected for the starting lineup.

Suresh Raina, a legendary IPL player and former Indian all-rounder, thinks that Jitesh is already on the selectors’ radar and may soon join the team. The former star of the Chennai Super Kings claimed that Jitesh, 29, from Vidarbha, might be a “great” choice for the club in the middle-order when Hindustan Times questioned him about which wicketkeeper-batter combination may be the most similar to MS Dhoni.

Jitesh earned his IPL debut as a member of the Punjab Kings last season after playing for the Mumbai Indians from 2016 to 2017. He deservedly did not play for MI, but he delivered strong domestic cricket performances for Vidarbha, earning him a bid from the PBKS before the 2022 season.

Suresh Raina while interacting with Jio Cinema spoke about the abilities of Jitesh Sharma. He said, “He’s playing brilliantly in the middle order so far. He’s played some important cameos. He’s an aggressive player, he had already been a part of Indian team but yes, he can be a great middle-order player. His wicketkeeping skills are good. He’s really impressed everyone with the way he’s batting. I’m sure the selectors would look at him again. His hitting abilities are really good, and you will see him a lot more in the future.”
