Sri Lanka’s 19-member squad for India series announced

With Women’s cricket gaining popularity in all cricket-playing nations, there has been an increased emphasis on conducting more matches on the cricket calendar. With the same objective, a white ball series between India and Sri Lanka has been organized. The series which starts on June 23, 2022, in Dambulla

The white ball series will have T20Is between June 23 to 27 and the ODIs will be held between 1st and 7th July. The Sri Lanka team for the same has been announced with some uncapped players as well. This series will be significantly important to the Sri Lanka team who finished at the bottom of the International Women’s Championship. 

Recently, the Sri Lanka Women team also lost to Pakistan Women by a 2-1 margin. This home series will help a lot to their confidence if they manage to win any game against India. This series will also mark the start of a new era in Indian Cricket as the legendary captain Mithali Raj retired recently. This would be the first game for the Indian team without Mithali Raj. 

The squad for the Sri Lanka team was announced recently with Vishmi Gunaratne as a debutant. Other notable inclusions are Hasini Perera, Nilakshi de Silva, Inoka Rahaweera and Oshadi Ranasinghe.
