Sreesanth in hot water: LLC issues legal notice for contract breach

The Legends League Cricket tournament was marred by controversy during the eliminator match when two World Cup-winning players, Gautam Gambhir and Sreesanth, engaged in a heated on-field altercation.

The incident unfolded in the second over of the first innings when Sreesanth allegedly made a comment to Gambhir that ignited the tension. The exchange escalated rapidly, with television cameras capturing a tense argument between the two players. Their body language and gestures hinted at a deep-seated disagreement. As the situation threatened to boil over, the umpire and the Gujarat Giants’ wicketkeeper, Parthiv Patel, intervened to separate Sreesanth and Gambhir.

In the aftermath of the heated exchange, Sreesanth took to social media to express his anger towards his former teammate. In a video message, he addressed Gambhir as “Mr. Fighter” and openly vented his frustration with the incident. Then in an Instagram Live session, Sreesanth further elaborated on the incident, revealing that Gambhir had used hurtful language towards him during the match. He stated that Gambhir had called him a “fixer” and told him to “f**k off” on several occasions, even in the presence of the umpires.

In contrast to Sreesanth’s public outburst, Gambhir opted for a cryptic response. He shared an image on social media of himself smiling brightly with the caption: “Smile when the world is all about attention!”

In a lengthy response to Gambhir’s cryptic post, Sreesanth issued a strong condemnation of his former teammate’s behaviour. He criticized Gambhir for exceeding the bounds of sportsmanship and called out his conduct as inappropriate, particularly given his position as a member of Parliament. Labelling Gambhir as arrogant and lacking class, Sreesanth’s comment further escalated the simmering tension between the two players.

Controversy intensifies

This matter has taken a new turn as the LLC Commissioner has issued Sreesanth a legal notice for allegedly breaching his player contract. This development adds a significant layer of complication to the already tense situation. Unfortunately for the pacer, the umpires have contradicted his claims, stating that Gambhir did not use any offensive language during the match. This directly challenges Sreesanth’s previous statements and potentially weakens his position in any potential legal proceedings.

The future trajectory of this matter remains uncertain. The legal notice issued to Sreesanth could lead to various consequences, including financial penalties, suspension from the LLC, or even termination of his contract.
