Having lost all of their five games, Delhi Capitals hosted Kolkata Knight Riders for their sixth match of the Indian Premier League 2023. Thanks to some good performances in all departments, DC managed to get their first win of the 2023 season. Delhi Capitals beat Kolkata Knight Riders by four wickets in the 28th match of the IPL 2023.

Winning the toss, DC went with the obvious choice to bowl first. This decision worked out really well for them as they always kept the Men in Purple at bay. While opener Jason Roy, making his debut for KKR, held onto one end, wickets kept tumbling at the other.

While Roy, who was struggling with hamstring issues while running, scored 43 runs in 39 balls, other batters found it difficult to get going on a sluggish wicket. Pacers Ishant Sharma and Anrich Nortje troubled the middle-order batters, while Kuldeep Yadav dismissed the well-set, Roy.

Towards the end of the innings, Andre Russell showed his muscle power and scored 38 runs in 31 balls. He contributed to his team’s 127/10 total, which appeared to be below par at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. For DC, Ishant, Nortje, Kuldeep, and Axar Patel each took two wickets, while Mukesh Kumar took one.

David Warner continues his consistent run

In the chase, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw got off to a good start, but the latter was unable to stay on and fell in the fifth over. While the 202 finalists lost a few more wickets in the middle overs, the captain kept the ship afloat. He scored 57 runs in 41 balls, which included 11 fours.

After Varun Chakravarthy dismissed him in the 14th over with a magnificent delivery, it was up to Axar Patel and Manish Pandey to win the game. The Men in Red and Blue now needed 35 runs in the final six overs to win. Pandey was expected to do the job after scoring a half-century in the last game, but he didn’t.

Towards the end, DC made things difficult for themselves as they took the game very deep. They, however, managed to win the game with Axar and Lalit Yadav doing the job with four balls to spare.
