The exclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal from the Indian squad of the 2023 Asia Cup has raised a lot of questions among the fans. There are many who feel that the senior spinner should have been in the Indian squad for the series. On the other hand, there are some who have also raised their opinions against Chahal and feel that the selectors have made the right decision.

Danish Kaneria felt that the Indian selectors had done the right thing by excluding the right-arm leg spinner. The 42-year-old uploaded a video on his YouTube channel and gave his opinion on the exclusion of Chahal from the Indian Asia Cup squad. The former Pakistan cricketer opined that Chahal did not deserve to be in the Indian squad.

The former leg break bowler from Pakistan compared the two Indian spinners, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, and claimed Kuldeep to be the better option among the two. According to Kaneria, Kuldeep has been more effective than Chahal in the Indian team recently, especially in the middle overs. The Karachi-born bowler said that selectors were right in excluding Chahal.

The selectors took the right call’ – Kaneria

“Yuzvendra Chahal does not deserve to be in Team India right now. He has been very inconsistent. Kuldeep Yadav, on the other hand, has picked up wickets regularly and can be effective in the middle overs. The selectors took the right call by going with Kuldeep over Chahal” said Kaneria on his YouTube channel and praised the brave decision of the Indian selectors.

In the last 20 months, Kuldeep Yadav has been one of the best spinners in ODIs. From Jan 2022, Kuldeep has played 189 matches and claimed 34 wickets at a bowling average of 20.91, a bowling strike rate of 25.56, at an economy of 4.91, including four 4-wicket hauls in ODIs. On the other hand, Chahal has 24 wickets in 14 matches in the period at a bowling average of 27.92, a bowling strike rate of 30.25, at an economy of 5.54, with three 4-wicket hauls to his name.
