The experimentations done by India in the West Indies series have yielded results, giving the selectors a big headache in making the selections of the squad for the Asia Cup. With Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, and Kuldeep Yadav all putting up match-winning performances, the selectors will need to pick a 15-member squad carefully after putting a lot of thought and deliberation into it.
The meeting will take place on Monday morning. Head Coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma will join in virtually, while the selectors will meet in Mumbai physically.
With 12 places in the team already confirmed, there are only three slots in the team that is left to be filled. Left-Arm Pacer, Arshdeep Singh is the frontrunner to come in. The debate will be between Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will both return to the setup. Deepak Chahar is also set for a comeback.
Virat Kohli was rested for the West Indies and Zimbabwe tour and is set to make a comeback into the Indian side for the Asia Cup. KL Rahul is set to make a return to the Indian team as well. He was out injured and had surgery in June and hasn’t featured for the Men in Blue ever since. Left Arm seamer Arshdeep Singh is all but confirmed to be named in Asia Cup Squad.
The Indian Cricket Board will select the Indian Team on Monday morning with the squad announcement likely to be made on Monday afternoon. Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid will join the selectors for the selection meeting from Florida. Harshal Patel has been ruled out of the Asia Cup due to a rib injury.
Virat Kohli and Kl Rahul have been the mainstays of the Indian side. The duo will come back and play cricket after a gap and will be rearing to go and score runs. Kohli took a break due to a hectic international calendar and Kl Rahul is set to come back into the side after recovering from injury. The Asia Cup will serve as ideal preparation for the 20-20 World Cup that is going to be held in Australia later this year.
