Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders met for their second fixture at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The coin fell RCB’s way and they chose to bowl. KKR got off to a wonderful start. N Jagadeesan made 27 off 29 balls with four fours. He was claimed by Vijaykumar Vyshak. Jason Roy continued his good form from where he left off against CSK. The Englishman made an impactful 56 off 29 balls with four fours and five sixes to provide impetus to KKR’s innings. He became Vyshak’s second victim

Venkatesh Iyer made 31 off 26 balls with three fours. Nitish Rana, the KKR skipper, came in at no 4 and made a fast 48 off 21 balls with three fours and four sixes. These contributions pushed KKR to a good total. The men in Purple and Gold had the perfect finish. Rinku Singh and David Wiese both got among the runs. Rinku scored an unbeaten 18 off 10 balls with two fours and one six. Wiese made 12 off just three balls with two sixes.

Varun Chakravarthy picked up 3 wickets for KKR and broke the back of RCB’s middle order

It was deja vu in the second innings like their last fixture as RCB batters struggled against the spin bowlers of KKR.  Faf du Plessis was scalped by Suyash Sharma early on. The South African departed after making just 17 off 7 balls. Suyash then got rid of Shahbaz Ahmed and Glenn Maxwell was no match for Varun Chakravarthy’s wizardry.

Mahipal Lomror made 34 off 18 balls with one four and three sixes but it was in vain as he became Chakravarthy’s second scalp. Virat Kohli batted alright, but he was scalped by Andre Russell after making 54 off 37 balls with six fours. Dinesh Karthik, who has looked woefully out of form, fell to his Tamil Nadu teammate. He did so after making 22 off 18 balls with one four and one six.

Suyash Prabhudessai and Wanindu Hasaranga did not shine with the bat either. Once again for RCB, the bowlers conceded too many runs and the Indian batters did not turn up for them. In the end, KKR picked a comfortable 21-run win.
