After much speculation and uncertainty, the Asia Cup will definitely be taking place. The Island Nation Sri Lanka was scheduled to host the multilateral tournament but due to uncertain economic conditions and civil unrest unfolding, the tournament had to be shifted. The host venue was changed to the United Arab Emirates. One of the other reasons The United Arab Emirates was chosen as the preferred venue was because of the clear weather in the Middle East. There will be no threat of rain.
The Asia Cup schedule for 2022 is out and the dates have been finalized. The Tournament kicks off on the 27th of August with Sri Lanka taking on Afghanistan in the opening game. The tournament will be held in the T20 format and will serve as a perfect dress rehearsal for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.
The hosting rights are still retained by Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) which will manage the multilateral tournament even though the matches are going to be held in The United Arab Emirates.
The second game of the tournament is the biggest of all battles India vs Pakistan. The mouthwatering clash will be something to die for as both the teams will be keen to square off against each other after they did so in the 20 -20 World Cup in 2021. The Super Four round will begin on the 3rd of September, while the final is scheduled for the 11th of September.
The Multilateral tournament is being held only for the second time in the T20I format. It was last played in Bangladesh in the same format. India is the defending champions of the Asia Cup.
