India’s World Cup squad was announced on 5 September. Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma talked about the men who matter at the press conference in Kandy. In the press meet, Ajit Agarkar said that KL Rahul is back to full fitness and will join the Indian side in Sri Lanka shortly. He recently got medical clearance to do so. The Karnataka batter missed the first two Asia Cup games due to a niggle. Rahul and Ishan Kishan are the two wicket-keeping options in the Indian squad.

Sanjay Manjrekar talked about the Indian squad and expressed his opinions on the same. “Yes, I think the selectors have done a good job considering the options that they had. The planning is good, now it’s all about the execution in the main game. I see India qualifying for the semis, but it is the challenge post the semis that India will have to contend with. There are some good sides around; we’ve had a glimpse of some of the squads. It’s not going to be easy, but yes, it’s a good enough side to win the World Cup,”  Manjrekar said.

India made it to the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup

India will want to win a World Cup on home soil considering that have not won a World event since 2013. The Men in Blue last won the Champions Trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The Men in Blue made it to the finals of the 2017 Champions Trophy, the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup and also were part of two World Test Championship finals. Though India have reached the top they have failed to cross the finish line.

The Men in Blue will want to make the most of home conditions where they are fully aware of ground dimensions and how the pitches will play out. The Rohit Sharma-led side will want to recreate history as they did in 2011. India will want to try and do well in the Asia Cup and the upcoming Australia series to some some momentum going into the 2023 World Cup.
