Despite a sensational knock from Suryakumar Yadav, India couldn’t win the third T20 international against England but still won the series by a 2-1 margin on Sunday. Unlike the first two games, England batted first and notched a mammoth score of 215 runs at the end of the first innings.

In pursuit of the total, Suryakumar Yadav came into the middle with India in trouble at 13 for 2 in 2.4 overs. One over later, Rohit Sharma too got out but this didn’t hamper Suryakumar Yadav’s confidence. For him, it was a chance to showcase his class to the cricketing world. After the end of five overs, India had lost 3 wickets for just 31 runs.

However, what followed was a 119-run partnership between Yadav and Shreyas Iyer. The former looked in top-class form during the partnership, though, Iyer struggled to score runs freely against the pacers. Yadav, however, never looked in pressure and showcased his range of shots.

He hit boundaries and sixes for fun and played shots all around the ground. The 31-year old reminded everyone of AB de Villiers as he played some unbelievable unorthodox shots. Wickets kept falling at the other end but the Mumbai batter kept the team in hunt by scoring boundaries at a great scoring rate.

He went on to notch a hundred in just 48 balls and, with that, also became only the fifth Indian batter to score a ton in T20 internationals. He was there at the crease till the 19th over and it looked like India would go on to win the game.

Yadav began the over with two fours and a six in 3 balls. However, he mistimed one on the fifth ball only to get caught at long off. He got out after playing a sensational knock of 117 runs in 55 balls, a knock which was studded with 14 fours and 6 sixes. Once he got out, it was all but over for India. The Men in Blue, eventually, fell short of 17 runs.

Meanwhile, an old Tweet of Rohit Sharma, dated 10th December 2011 went viral on social media, following Suryakumar Yadav’s heroic knock.

“Just got done with BCCI awards here in chennai..some exciting cricketers coming up..Suryakumar yadav from Mumbai to watch out for in future!” read the tweet.

Given how he is batting, you would say that Suryakumar Yadav should have been added a lot earlier in the Indian Team.
