Indian commentator Aakash Chopra has stated that India skipper Rohit Sharma wasn’t pointing out anyone with his ‘hunger’ remark in the press conference after the fourth Test match in Ranchi. India won the fourth Test by 5 wickets against England in Ranchi. With this win, India won the five-match Test series by 3-1 as the last match will be played in HPCA in Dharmshala.

During the press conference, Rohit Sharma stated that players who want to be in the Test team need to have ‘hunger’ to succeed in the toughest format of the game.

Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel that Rohit Sharma stated that players need to have lots of discipline and dedication to get success in Test cricket and he was not targeting any player.

“Rohit Sharma has said that this is the toughest format and if you have to succeed in that, you need a lot of discipline and dedication. He also said that it’s evident if someone does not have that hunger, but he was not hinting at anyone.”

“If you hear his entire bite until the end, he also said that there is no one within the playing group or outside who is saying that they don’t want to play. So he was not taking potshots at anyone,” said Chopra.

What does the ‘hunger’ word mean by Rohit Sharma

During the press conference after the Ranchi victory, the India captain stated that only those who are hungry and eager to play will be given a chance. Rohit Sharma further stated that if players don’t take advantage of their opportunities, they will be dropped out of the Test squad.

“It’s a demanding format, and hunger is essential for success and excellence. We will only give chances to those who are hungry. “You eventually find out who doesn’t want to play Tests,” Rohit stated at the post-match press conference.

“The ones who want to play, have the hunger to perform, play in tough conditions, will be given preference. If there’s no hunger, then there’s no point playing them. I don’t see anyone who doesn’t have that hunger. If you don’t make use of opportunities, they will go. The ones who perform and help teams win, get more attention,” Rohit said, as per India Today.
