Indian skipper Rohit Sharma continued his blistering form with the bat during the ODI World Cup 2023 game against New Zealand on Sunday. Sharma was out for 46 from 40 balls with four boundaries and four sixes in his knock.

The 36-year-old yet again gave his team a great start while chasing the 274-run target set by New Zealand. Lockie Ferguson gave the Kiwis the much-needed wicket when he rattled Rohit Sharma’s stumps. Apart from his duck against the Australians, the Indian skipper has seen his bat do the talking. His current form has reminded the fans of his feats during the ODI World Cup 2019 form in England.

Rohit Sharma gives India a flying start –

Chasing 274 to win, the focus of the Indian chase was the battle between Rohit Sharma and Trent Boult. After watching the first ball closely, the Indian skipper gave Boult the charge. Rohit closed the face of the bat to guide the ball past square leg for a four.

The next over Matt Henry saw Rohit dance down the wicket to hit him deep into the stand for a huge six. This was followed by the second boundary for the Indian skipper as he moved to 14 runs. Trent Boult could have dismissed Rohit when he was on 14 but Daryl Mitchell dropped the chance as it went for a four. The battle between Rohit and Boult wasn’t over as the Indian batter smashed the Kiwi straight over his head for a six.

In the 10th over, Rohit Sharma sat down on his knees to paddle scoop Matt Henry for a four. This had the Kiwis in shock as the fans applauded the timing and audacity behind the shot. Rohit Sharma then ran down the wicket and hit yet another six off Henry this time over extra cover region.

Mitchell Santner was bought into the attack to stem the flow of runs from the Indian batters. After seeing Tom Latham drop the catch in the previous ball, Rohit Sharma hit his 4th six of the innings.

Just when it seemed like the Indian skipper would score his half-century, Ferguson’s slower ball did the track. Rohit Sharma couldn’t resist the temptation as he went searching for the ball and his off-stump was flat on the ground.
