The 21^st game of the ODI World Cup 2023 game in Dharamshala saw Daryl Mitchell hog the headlines. The 32-year-old continued his purple patch with the bat with an amazing century versus India on Sunday.

It was the top-of-the-table clash on Sunday as number-ranked New Zealand faced the number two-ranked India. The winner of the game was just one step closer to becoming favourites to reach the knockout stages of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma won his second toss of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. For the 5^th game in running the Indian team decided to chase. Mohammad Shami and Suryakumar Yadav were drafted into the team to replace Shardul Thakur and Hardik Pandya.

Indian bowlers treated to Daryl Mitchell master class –

Put into bat first, the Kiwis were two down early in the game with just 19 runs on the board in the 9^th over. That’s when Daryl Mitchell joined Rachin Ravindra in the middle to take the fight to the Indian bowlers.

While the young Rachin Ravindra was slow to begin with, Mitchell went after the Indian bowlers right from the start. The 32-year-old gave charge to the Indian pacers and smacked them down the ground.

Against the Indian spinners, Daryl Mitchell was in a punishing mood taking a special liking to Kuldeep Yadav. The Kiwi kept going from one end despite losing the wicket of Ravindra against the run of play.

Daryl Mitchell got his 5^th ODI century when he took a single off Jasprit Bumrah. The right-handed batter was overjoyed as he hoisted his bat in the air. The capacity crowd showed its appreciation as did his teammates in the dugout.

Mohammad Siraj and Mohammad Siraj had the Kiwis in early trouble at 19/2. Devon Conway didn’t fire as he was caught by Shreyas Iyer off Siraj for a nine-ball duck. Will Young was out bowled for 17 to Mohammad Shami.

Rachin Ravindra then took over as he began slowly rebuilding the innings. once he got his eye in the 23-year-old scored his third half-century of the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. Ravindra and Mitchell added a massive 159 runs for the third wicket stand to put the Indians under pressure.
