When Virat Kohli resigned from the Indian Captaincy role across all formats, the hot seat was transferred to Rohit Sharma. When the change of guard happened, the talk around was that India will be able to perform better under pressure and win more of the big tournaments. This was in line with Rohit Sharma’s striking record as a captain in the Indian T20 league.
Rohit Sharma has won 5 Indian T20 League titles for the Mumbai franchise, and it was assumed by the selectors that he would automatically be able to replicate the same form in national colours as well, but it was not to be. Sharma has been battling fitness issues and his lack of fitness has come under the scanner many times due to which he was forced to miss important matches for team India.
He missed the all-important 5th Test against England and was not a part of the South Africa series at home as well due to that same injury. Although he has one series in New Zeeland at home and the away series in England and the West Indies, his captaincy in the Asia Cup 2022 has been dismal. His field placings have been average, and he has not read the game well.
There was confusion as to who of Pant or Pandya would go at the fall of a wicket in the game against Sri Lanka and he was seen getting overly frustrated with every mistake made. He could have given advice to the bowlers at the right time which did not happen and there were times when he overcommunicated with the bowlers.
His selection calls have been erratic and very bad. He is not approaching the game of cricket in the right way and seems a tad overconfident. His field placings have been rash and predictable. This led to the fans venting their anger and getting into a tizzy over his captaincy, many of them have blamed Rohit for the shambolic Asia Cup campaign.
I love seeing Rohit Sharma crying . It’s my daily medicine, my weekly energy my monthly inspiration. His failure is the only reason I’m still alive . I was born to love and enjoy the failure he has achieve pic.twitter.com/sE3ruqo72b

So many years for Rohit Sharma to finally realise how it feels to be a Pakistani captain pic.twitter.com/0fI0LEa7nf

Jokes apart but this is how you treat youngsters? Imagine being a captain and insulting your bowler like this during a live and crucial match. Shame on rohit sharma.https://t.co/yoaAR1XWES

If Rohit sharma had fielded properly during the 18th over we would have got 2 more runs to defend..we might have won it. Clueless clueless captaincy..+ not giving arshadeep the 19th. We lost vs both pak and sl bcoz of his captaincy. #SackRohit pic.twitter.com/MIaJ6G6svH

Dropped DK, didn't give the ball to Hooda when Nawaz a lefty who was playing ,went on to bowl YUZI in powerplay and played games with only four specialist bowlers.
Quite the reasons to sack Rohit Sharma from captaincy – From a Kohli fan who experienced these things 🙂 #sackrohit pic.twitter.com/q8b8xFOL8X— Vishnu (@itsvishnu17) September 6, 2022

BCCI has to take a strong decision to remove Rohit Sharma from captaincy. He is not a captaincy material. The bodylanguage of Rohit Sharma has become a meme. The panic is clearly visible on the face of Rohit Sharma in pressure situation. Bring back Virat Kohli as captain of India
