Rohit Sharma is one of the biggest six hitters in the shorter formats of the game. He famously earned the sobriquet of being called the ‘Hitman’ for smashing big sixes. The seasoned campaigner is famous for hitting many of them into the stands and is particularly famous for his pull shot. He ends up hitting sixes with that shot more often than not.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are the lynchpins for the Indian team. They are almost neck to neck when it comes to scoring runs and making and breaking records. On Tuesday, August 2, Rohit went on to ellipse one of Kohli’s individual records in the shortest format. He achieved this feat during the third T20I between India and West Indies at Warner Park in  St Kitts. Rohit ended up breaking Kohli’s record of hitting the most number of sixes as  T20I captain for the men in blue.

Rohit achieves the milestone before going off due to injury

The 35-year-old might have not got a big score as he scored only 11 runs off five deliveries in the third game, but it was a quick one as his knock consisted of a four and a six. The six he hit came from his famed pull shot, which nearly ended up as a dismissal at deep backward square leg, but  Dominic Drakes shelled the catch as the ball cleared the fence for a maximum.

Thus, Rohit Sharma went past his former captain Virat Kohli to get to pole position for the most number of sixes as captain for the men in blue in the T20I format. Rohit now sits atop the chart with 60 sixes while Virat comes second holding 59 sixes to his name. The legendary ‘ Captain Cool’  MS Dhoni  sits at the third spot with 34 big hits to his name while leading the team.

Rohit Sharma batted with discomfort and was seen holding his back as he walked off the field. Later he was diagnosed with a back spasm. However, Rohit cleared all doubts as he mentioned that he was doing ok at the post-match presentation.

Most sixes by Indian captains in men’s T20Is:

60 – Rohit Sharma

59 – Virat Kohli

34 – MS Dhoni
