Let's take a look at day 7 for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022

Day 7 turned out to be a great one for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Murali Sreeshankar became the first Indian to win a medal in the long jump. Sudhir scripted history as he won gold for India in the Para Powerlifting category. India got to the 20 medal mark in the tally and currently has 6 gold medals to their name. 

Badminton stars PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and others made it to the next round. Amit Panghal, Jasmine Lamboria and other boxers progressed too. Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa starred in squash.

Let’s take a look at day 7 for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022: 

Table Tennis:

Manika Batra was the talk of the town after she started with a win. In mixed doubles, Manika Batra – Sathiyan Gnanasekaran advanced to the successive level. Sharath Kamal – Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Sanil Shetty – Harmeet Desai also made it to the next round. 

Athletics:

Murali Sreeshankar scripted history for India. He became the first Indian to win gold in the long jump. Murali Sreeshankar is also the second Indian after Tejaswin Shankar to win a medal for India in athletics this year. Hima Das marched on to the semi-finals after her victory in the 200m heat event.

Squash:

Anahat – Sunayna failed to make it to the next round. On the other hand, Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa cruised into the quarter-finals. Dipika Pallikal – Saurav Ghosal entered the quarter-finals while Joshna Chinappa – Harinder Sandhu faced defeat in the round of 16.

Boxing:

Amit Panghal, Sagar Ahalwat, Jasmine Lamboria and Rohit Tokas made it to the next round. This brings India closer to winning more medals.

Para Powerlifting:

Sudhir lifted a total of 212kg in his second attempt in the men’s heavyweight category final to win gold for India. He has broken the Commonwealth Games records. 

Badminton:

 PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen cruised onto the Round of 16 in the single’s event. Ashwini Ponnappa and B Sumeeth Reddy were disappointed as they lost their opening match.
