Babar Azam has been one of the best batters in the world since his debut, especially since 2018. The Pakistani batter has played some exceptional knocks in all the formats of the game in his short career so far. Many regard the Pakistani captain as one of the greatest Pakistani batters ever and one of the best batters in the world currently.

The former Sri Lankan bowler praised Azam and spoke about his influence on the youngsters and the Lanka Premier League. Chaminda Vaas said “We all know that he is the number one batsman in the world (currently), and the way he performs and contributes to the team is amazing. All the youngsters can learn so much from him. I am so excited to see him play in the Lanka Premier League,” said Vaas.

The former left-arm pacer also talked about Virat Kohli’s form. “Most people want Kohli to perform all the time. If he fails in one or two games, people react differently, because Kohli has been scoring right from the beginning of his career. A player can go out of touch, but there is no doubt about his class. Even on the West Indies tour, he has performed. He wants to improve and contribute to Indian cricket. I am sure he will do well,” added Vaas.

‘People expect him to perform in every match’ – Vaas

Vaas later compared Kohli to Sachin Tendulkar. “Even in Tendulkar’s latter part, people expected him to perform in every match. But that cannot happen all the time. Maybe that is why Kohli is lacking right now. His fitness level and technique are good, as far as I am concerned,” explained Vaas.

The 49-year-old also talked about the possibility of Virat Kohli breaking Sachin’s records. “Record is there to be broken, you know, you can’t have records all the time. Different eras, different players, but the way I see it, Kohli is still young and has a lot of time. Age is just a number, and the way he’s performing, I am sure he will do well for Indian cricket. We have seen different generations in which India has produced excellent cricketers” Vaas felt.
