In today’s encounter in the Women’s Premier League, Mumbai Indians Women secured a convincing victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore Women, beating them by seven wickets. The match played at a packed stadium, showcased exceptional cricketing skills from both sides, but it was Mumbai Indians Women who ultimately emerged triumphant.

At the outset, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s captain, Smriti Mandhana won the toss and elected to bat first, setting a target of 132 runs for Mumbai Indians to chase down.

RCB didn’t bat all too well as they failed to stitch partnerships which eventually led to them putting up a sub-par total on the board. Ellyse Perry (44) and Georgia Wareham (27) were the only ones who got going against a rampant Mumbai attack. MI’s bowlers were extremely disciplined and consistent on the day. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Pooja Vastrakar picked up two wickets each while Issy Wong and Saika Ishaque claimed one each.

In response, Mumbai Indians commenced their chase with intent and precision. Yastika Bhatia was impressive as she smashed 31 off just 15 deliveries to destroy any hope that RCB fans harboured.  Hayley Matthews and Brunt too batted well before Amelia Kerr smashed 40 off 24 balls to wind up the proceedings.

“A complete performance…”- Nat Sciver-Brunt

Mumbai Indians reached the target with utmost ease as they had almost 5 over still left. It was a comprehensive team effort from Mumbai Indians, coming on the back of a loss against the UP Warriorz. They will be delighted as they are now back to winning ways and also because they are now leading the points table. Amelia Kerr was adjudged the Player-of-the-match for her superb all-round performance (40 and 0-20). Post the game, she termed the team’s performance as a complete one.

While speaking to the official broadcaster, JioCinema, after the game, stand-in-skipper, Brunt echoed Kerr’s sentiments as she too felt that it was a complete performance from her side. “A complete performance from the team tonight. Really lucky with the players we have in our squad,” she said.

RCB on the other hand, need to go back to the drawing board as they have now lost two games in a row. They started the tournament quite well but they haven’t played anywhere close to their potential in the last couple of games. The skipper, Smriti Mandhana cited losing early wickets as the reason behind the loss. ” I think we didn’t really get the start we wanted, and losing 4 early wickets really cost us the game,” she said.

Here’s a look at how ‘X-verse’ reacted to Mumbai Indian’s dominant victory against the Royal Challengers:
