In news that will give comfort to the Indian fans and management alike, Men in Blue star allrounder Ravindra Jadeja has been drafted into the squad for the first two Tests against Australia. The Kangaroos will take on India in a four-match Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The last time India played the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home was in 2016-17, which India won 2-1.

The allrounder was out of action for a lengthy period due to knee surgery resulting in missing out on the all-important 20-20 World Cup 2022. He has been going through his rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He put out a cryptic message for the fans to let them know he was back. He took to Twitter and posted a photo of his Test jersey with his name with caption “Missed you. But soon”. The tweet was captioned.

Ravichandran Ashwin also provided an update on Jadeja’s comeback

Jadeja could be drafted into the Saurashtra side against Tamil Nadu which will be their final round in the Ranji Trophy. The game will be played in Chennai. He will be wanting to prove that he is fully fit when he plays the Ranji Match. He was named in the Indian squad but he has been put under subject to fitness. He last played for India in the Asia Cup against Hong Kong in 2022.

India missed the services of Jadeja in the 20-20 World Cup in Australia. The balance that Jadeja brings to the Indian side is second to none. His absence was felt in the World event where India crashed out of the semi-finals against England. Jadeja would have made a difference with a left-handed option in the middle order and given India four bonafide overs with his left-arm spin.

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also gave information to fans about Jadeja’s status. He said that the all-rounder would be in full fitness by the time the Australia series begins. “I put in a lot of work whenever a home series happens. I’m expecting (Ravindra) Jadeja to come through (be fit in time) but I like expanding more angles. I got some things in my head. I’ve been watching Australia play in Australia. I’d like to be working on some different angles, something new”, He told the New Indian Express. The off-spinner will form a vital part and India will be heavily reliant on him to get vital breakthroughs. The pitches in India generally aid spin and Ashwin is expected to play a big part.
