The former Indian U19 World Cup captain was expected to be fast-tracked to the Indian team. But due to his involvement in the Indian cricket league, the selectors ignored him. After receiving an apology from Rayudu, the selectors considered the youngster eligible for selection in the Indian team. Yet, Rayudu found it difficult to make it into the Indian team.
In 2013, Rayudu made his international debut and performed well for some months. From 2013 to 2016, Rayudu scored 1055 runs in ODIs at a good average of 50.24, including 2 hundred. Rayudu was dropped again due to a lack of form. In 2018, following a successful IPL stint with Chennai Super Kings, Rayudu returned to the Indian side.
From 2018 to 2019, the middle-order batter was one of the best performers at number 4. In 21 matches in the period, Rayudu scored 639 runs at a batting average of 42.60, at a strike rate of 84.08, including a hundred and 4 fifty. The talented player was not selected for the 2019 ODI World Cup and never played for India again.
