Rakul Preet Singh to play the role of Shurpanakha in Ranbir Kapoor starrer Ramayana?

Pre-production for filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious project, Ramayana, is currently underway. Starring Sai Pallavi as Sita and Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, the movie is his first mythological endeavour. There are many rumours that Rakul Preet Singh is in talks to star in the blockbuster film. It has been reported that she is in talks to take on the role of Shurpanakha.

A report in Pinkvilla claims that Tiwari and Singh are talking about the project. According to a source, “Shurpanakha’s cast has been decided upon after discussions between Rakul and Nitesh Tiwari. Shurpanakha is one of the most significant characters in the Ramayana because she is the one who started Lord Ram and Raavan’s rivalry.”

Rakul is eager to dive into this epic world, and the paperwork is about to be finalised. The source continued, “The actress views this associate with the timeless Ramayana story as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It is said that she underwent look tests for the movie. If everything goes according to plan, this may be her first movie shoot after marrying producer Jackky Bhagnani.”

The main cast of Ramayana is locked, as was recently confirmed. In the Ramayana, Sunny Deol portrays Hanuman, Yash plays Raavan, and Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Ram. Sai Pallavi is cast as Sita. The producers plan to start shooting the movie in March 2024, so pre-production and prep work have already started, an anonymous source informed us.

Reportedly, Vijay Sethupathi has been approached to play Vibhishan, and Lara Dutta will portray Kaikeyi, one of Dasharatha’s wives. Over the weekend of Diwali 2025, Ramayana: Part One will be released. The film’s production will come to an end in July 2024, and a year-long post-production phase will ensue.

There have been a lot of theories about the ‘Ramayana’ in recent years. There were rumours that Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt would team up again for a Brahmastra role in which they would play Ram and Sita. RK is working on the project, but no one ever got in touch with his wife. But rumour has it that Deepika Padukone was also contacted.
