India are scheduled to play a five-match T20I series against South Africa, starting on 9 June 2022. Big players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested as young players were included in the squad.
After last year’s disastrous 20-20 World Cup, India are enjoying a 12-match winning streak and another win will help them to create a world record in this shortest format of the game. In a virtual press conference, India coach Rahul Dravid said that he needs to see “Clarity of Roles” from his top three batters throughout the series.
Team India’s playing style within the powerplay overs has been the major talked about thing in recent times as they have been criticised for their slow approach. However, this series will be a good test to introduce some attacking approach at the start of the innings to pressurise the opponents from the start.
“We will be giving them a lot of clarity as to what their roles are.” – Rahul Dravid
The Indian legend emphasised that they will give different roles as per the situation to the players. He said: “If it’s a high-scoring game, then obviously you want your players to maintain the strike rate. If the wicket is more challenging, then they have to respond to that as well, in general, in T20 you want people to play positively and these people do that. As I said their roles might be slightly different from what we expect of them. We will be giving them a lot of clarity as to what their roles are. And I’m confident anyone in the top three will be able to play the role according to the situation of the match,”
Speaking about the top three, he said that they are top players and they will not be changed in whatever situations. “We know our top three’s quality. They are top class. There will be a slightly different top three in this series but what we are looking for (in general) is a good positive start and playing according to the situation,” Dravid concluded.
