Rahul Dravid likely to become new LSG mentor if Indian cricket board do not extend his contract

Rahul Dravid’s contract with the Indian team has come to an end. The former Indian captain was given the role of coaching the Indian team after a bad performance of India in the T20 World Cup 2021. After the tournament, India was in a transition phase, as Virat Kohli stepped down from his captaincy in limited overs cricket. India needed new leadership to take them forward.

Rohit Sharma was named the new captain of the Indian team. As Ravi Shastri’s tenure as the coach came to an end, India named Rahul Dravid as the new head coach of India. the contract between India and Dravid was from the T20 World Cup 2021 to the ODI World Cup 2023. As the ODI World Cup 2023 has come to an end, the contract of Dravid has expired.

Reportedly, Dravid is unlikely to extend his contract with the Indian team. Reports also suggest that India might appoint VVS Laxman as the new coach of India. Laxman acted as Dravid’s backup coach, whenever Dravid was on leave or India was going for tours with second string squads. The head of the National Cricket Academy is one of the front runners to become the next coach of India.

Rahul Dravid to become new mentor of LSG?

As Dravid is unlikely to continue as the head coach of India, it opens up several options of him going forward. Reports suggest that Dravid might become mentor of either LSG or Rajasthan Royals for the IPL 2024. The reports claim so, as Gautam Gambhir was appointed the new mentor of KKR for the IPL 2024. LSG needs a mentor to guide their players. Dravid suits the role well.

If India do not make an attempt to extend the contract with Dravid, LSG might get their new mentor in the form of the gentleman of cricket. Given the fact that LSG has KL Rahul as their captain, who happens to be from Karnataka, the partnership between him and Dravid might do good for the franchise. It is to be seen if the reports can get materialized to reality.
